Making attars, or concentrated perfume oils, has been a long-standing tradition in India. But, over the years, there has been a change in the perception of this category of perfumes, as European products took over the market as “more superior.”
Western perfumery, especially French fragrances, dominate the world of fragrances today, and are seen as the epitome of good-quality scents. The reason we look to Western luxury brands like Chanel, Dior, or even Elizabeth Arden while buying perfumes is because we are conditioned to think of their products as better. But is that really the case, or are we missing out on better products back home because we are fixating on what is expensive and exotic? Spoiler alert: it’s the latter, and we are going to explain why.
